What is a DRep?
A Delegated Representative (DRep) is an individual or group that registers on-chain (deposit currently 500 ada, refundable) and votes on governance actions. DReps are not elected: their voting weight is the total ada delegated to them, and holders can change delegation at any time.
Your delegation options
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| Delegate to a DRep | The DRep votes with your voting power. |
| Abstain | Your stake is counted as abstaining on every action. |
| No Confidence | Your stake votes Yes on no-confidence motions and No on other actions. |
| Register as a DRep yourself | Vote directly (and others may delegate to you). |
Staying active
A DRep that does not vote for a set number of epochs (currently 20) becomes inactive and its stake stops counting towards thresholds until it votes again.
How to delegate
- Open the official GovTool.
- Browse the DRep directory and read DReps' profiles and voting records.
- Connect your own wallet inside GovTool and confirm the delegation transaction.
Myth: "Delegating my vote moves my ada." It does not. Your ada stays in your wallet.
